Four years ago Millbrook and Shevington Vale in Appley Bridge, joined together to form only the second Federation of primary schools in Wigan, but one of many such institutions across the country.
We were all delighted when in September 2014 Shevington Community Primary School joined the Federation.
The three schools have so much in common and share an Executive Headteacher, a leadership and management team and a Governing Body.
Bringing our schools together in this way is providing all three with many new opportunities, from children working together across the federation to shared teaching, staff development and special events and projects.
The children certainly think ‘Federation’ and our families are growing used to children and staff moving between schools.
Each school has its own Headteacher – Mr Marsh is Head of Shevington Community - so that there is always someone to deal with the day to day running of the school.
The Heads of each school frequently meet together with the Executive Head to develop strategy for the future and ensure that the same high quality of education is consistent across the Federation.
This is the future for education, particularly for smaller primary schools.
We’re delighted to be blazing a trail in Wigan with something so exciting.
